Comic Collection 101: The Basics
We may have all been introduced to the world of comics as children, but it becoming quite clear that this is no longer the case. Here is a very, VERY basic list of titles that anyone who wants to get into comics should read and know.
Y: The Last Man Brian K. Vaughan

One of the more outstanding titles to come out in the last decade, not just because of its writing style, but its original approach at a world where man is all but extinct.

Watchmen Alan Moore, David Gibbons

The so-called "Godfather" of the modern comic, this book brought realism and adult issues to a superhero setting. While a bit dated, its cultural impact cannot be ignored.

Sandman Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman exhibits his interests in mythology and lore in every page of this nine-book "series." The stories can lag a bit, but the overall effect and impact is quite amazing.

The Dark Knight Frank Miller

It is Batman as he logically would be. Absolutely insane, but with ideals. Frank Millers art is as gritty as the storytelling. A must for anyone attempting to approach Batman today, as this book changed his persona forever.

Earth X Alex Ross, Jim Krueger, John Paul Leon

Possibly my favorite story of all time. An interesting approach to a not-too-distant/dystopian future in the Marvel Universe that is far too complicated to summate here.

Kingdom Come Mark Waid, Alex Ross

The DC Universe has always been so clean.

This is really the first time DC has ever been looked at with a fairly pessimistic stand point. Beautiful imagery from Alex Ross.
